School is finally out for the summer, and Carson City’s parks, fields, courts, and trails are filling up with kids and their families enjoying the great outdoors! Whether you run, play a sport, love to go for a hike, or just enjoy spending time exploring, you can’t really beat the Eagle Valley in early June.
That said, we encourage you to stay safe! Nicer weather and relaxed schedules often encourage people of all ages to increase their activity levels (good), but it also increases the risk of sports-related injuries to the feet and ankles (bad). This is especially true for people who haven’t gotten out much for at least a few months. If you haven’t properly prepared your body for exercise, then do too much too soon, you place yourself at much greater risk.
Unfortunately, one mistake that many people make is not seeking help soon enough, trying to take matters into their own hands, or simply shrugging off a “minor” injury under the assumption it will get better over time. In some cases, this approach might be successful. In other cases, failure to give your feet and ankles the time and treatment they need to heal can lead to prolonged pain, worsening damage, or even long-term complications like arthritis and ankle instability.
We’d much rather you come in and see us at the first sign of trouble. At Sierra Foot & Ankle, we see all kinds of activity-related pain and injury. Aching heels, sprained ankles, bruised toenails, torn tendons … you get the idea. We’ll make sure you get a thorough examination, an accurate diagnosis, and all the time you need to go over your treatment options and understand what you need to do in order to feel better as quickly as possible. That way, you can get back to doing what you love with confidence!
We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to foot care, but instead provide both conservative and surgical solutions, and we work closely with you to develop a medically sound plan that make sense for your lifestyle.
