Proper foot care plays an essential role in managing foot ailments. Improper footwear can cause ulcers or sores on the feet which could result in infection, or more seriously, amputation. Diabetics especially have a high risk for foot disorders which can be complicated without proper footwear. Studies have shown that therapeutic shoes play an important role in reducing the occurrences of ulcers and sores.
Even if foot complications are not a current issue, preventative measures should be taken to avoid foot complications later in life.
The biggest cause for skin ulcers is improper footwear. To benefit fully, therapeutic shoes should be worn all the times. Surgery is not always a cure to foot problems. Surgery may provide relief, but patients often benefit from proper footwear to prevent re-occurring damage. Therapeutic shoes provide extra room needed to comfort feet and reduce the chance for sores to develop. Some shoes, if needed, provide Velcro closures to accommodate swollen feet.
