At Sierra Foot & Ankle, we’re committed to staying on the leading edge of research and technology when it comes to alleviating chronic and acute foot and ankle issues. That dedication is what inspired us to create the Sierra Foot & Ankle Laser Therapy Center of Excellence.
Several years ago, we were one of the first practices in the area to offer laser therapy for fungal toenails. Since then, we’ve added another laser to help patients with acute and chronic soft tissue injuries. We are pleased to offer these advanced, proven-effective treatments to our patients and friends.
The Laser Revolution
Over the last few decades, laser technology has developed tremendously. We are now using state-of-the-art lasers to treat a variety of stubborn foot and ankle conditions, extremely effectively. These treatments are often able to provide long-awaited relief for even the most stubborn injuries and infections, after months of more traditional conservative therapies have failed.
Laser Therapy at Sierra Foot & Ankle
When it comes to treating fungal toenails, laser therapy has completely changed the game. It is by far the safest, fastest, and most effective remedy currently available to deal with this unsightly and embarrassing condition. The laser beam passes safely through the nail and attacks the fungal spores, all without causing any pain or damage to the surrounding skin.
Conventional oral antifungals, the previous method of choice, are less effective at eliminating the fungus. They must be taken every day for several weeks, and also prone to producing side effects, including liver damage. Laser therapy has none of these disadvantages, requires only a few brief in-office sessions for your treatment course, and gets better results. If you’re sick of unsightly nails and are ready to show off your lovely feet again, this is the option for you.
Lasers can also be used to relieve pain and even accelerate natural cellular healing and regeneration within injured tissues. Our robotically controlled Multiwave Locked System (MLS) laser is an extremely effective tool that we use to reduce pain and heal soft-tissue inflammatory conditions like plantar fasciitis, arthritis, Achilles tendinitis, and others.
Light produces photon energy. At certain wavelengths, powers, and pulse rates, that energy can be directly “absorbed” by human cells and converted into useful biomechanical energy. This allows those same cells to step up metabolism, increase circulation, use nutrients more efficiently, accelerate tissue repair and regeneration mechanisms, fight inflammation, reduce pain, and more. For many patients, this type of laser therapy has allowed them to recover from serious injuries that may have otherwise required surgery.
